The infamous closed-road street racing title, Tokyo Xtreme Racer, will hit our screens again on the 23rd of January 2025. This new release date gives the title just a few weeks until it begins its early access journey.

If you have not heard of Tokyo Xtreme Racer before, the game initially came out in 1994 and has been periodically releasing mobile titles throughout the years, with the most recent debuting in 2017. However, the most recent game in the true original Tokyo Xtreme Racer style was released over eighteen years ago.

This new addition to the franchise looks to be a significant step up with higher graphical fidelity to the older titles and the much broader potential to modify your vehicles.

When asked about why the title will be released into early access, as opposed to a full release, the company spokesperson for Genki co. Ltd, stated:

"We felt it would be best to launch the game in Early Access to do justice to the franchise. A lot has changed in the genre since Tokyo Xtreme Racer was around, and we believe it's just as important to collect feedback not only from the fans that have stuck with the franchise but also from racing game fans in general." - Genki Co. Ltd

The goal of the game is to upgrade your car and make it to the top of the rankings with other drivers on the Tokyo Expressways, but what does the new game need to do differently to survive in 2025?

Not gonna lie the system requirements are quite a bit higher than i've expected from this game, but so far it's looking good!

Im more surprised by the complete LACK of marketing. I didn't know a new game was coming out until i saw someone phone-record themselves in tokyo in an arcade booth testing the new game in a video with 500 views.

Maybe that's a good sign that they think they have something fun and streamers will fill the gap in the marketing. I know of one gran Turismo channel that's going to be branching out into this. I found the channel trying to get gt4 working with my DD wheel and load cell pedals thru emulation. I doubt beamng would be where it is without YouTube.

I had a lot of fun with Tokio xtreme racer zero, very quirky game, you even need to match many weird conditions and time windows to meed every single boss. I didn't even knew that genki was still in business.

yes, I felt so, luckily the youtube algorithm show me their video marketing on day two... and it's just that, the views not even reach 20k views... but now after times, atleast they got recognition by streamers like black phantaa...
