Fanatec Offers Free Wheel-side QR2 With Most Steering Wheels

Sim racers looking to expand their Fanatec hardware lineup get a nice surprise to end 2024: For many complete steering wheels, Fanatec now throws in a free wheel-side QR2.

With the introduction of the QR2 quick release system, Fanatec made life for sim racers who use multiple wheels within their ecosystem much easier. However, when ordering a new wheel or bundle, it was still the QR1 that came for free, so if you had already upgraded your wheel base to QR2, you had to bite the bullet and pay extra for a wheel-side QR2 as well.

This is not the case anymore: The majority of steering wheels now come with a QR2 for free. This means you can easily save about €100 on your order compared to how it worked previously when opting for the normal QR2, so not the Lite or Pro version.

Separate QR2 Discounts

At the same time, both base-side and wheel-side QR2 elements are now cheaper as separate products as well - at least for a limited time, the end of which Fanatec does not explicitly state - but "special pricing for the holidays" in the manufacturer's latest blog post implies that the discount will end on or around Christmas.

Currently, the QR2 Wheel-Side can be had for €80 / $80 / AU$120 / ¥12,500, and the QR2 Base-Side (Type-C) now costs €60 / $60 / AU$90 / ¥9,500. While this makes upgrading both your base and one wheel not a necessarily cheap option, it does make it a bit easier on the wallet. If you have already done the upgrade but considered a new wheel, now might be the time to pull the trigger, though.

Should you be inclined to do so, we would very much appreciate it if you would consider using our affiliate link to Fanatec for this. We make a small commission on each sale made using this link, without any extra costs for you. And with that, you support your favorite sim racing community, so that we can keep hosting all the downloads you need and post all the news, reviews, features and more.

Will you take advantage of the current Fanatec QR2 deals? Let us know in the comments below and join the discussion in our hardware forum!

Now if Fanatec would finally offer some turn signal/wiper/headlight stalk accessory for wheels! and ensure it is PS5 Compatible!

This is actually cool AF for real sim elitist purists who won't settle for anything less than the ultimate most perfect realism. How else should I be expected to adjust the dimmer setting for the gauges and ambient lighting other than on the lights stalk!?

They just need a separate hazard button switch that blinks according to the manufacturer blink rate

And of course, nothing like the hazards and lock switch being millimeters apart for that ultimate in decision making pressure decision.

I wanted to purchase a fanatec wheel and i retain my purchase just because of that. I will think about it again.
Good news

Ready2race and this quick release(metal) bundled made me pull trigger to get csl dd +mclaren v2 wheel. If CSL DD feels good I will get WRC wheel too.

So now if I want to buy a Formula 2.5 for Christmas there is no option for QR1 ?
Way to go, slap your longtime supporters.

So ...I would have to pay extra for QR1 ( oh they not listed anymore so I can't ) or forced to buy new shaft and 2 more QR2 for my other wheels.

Catch 22 aka impossible situation

Like I said year ago to make QR2 a free option but not to discontinue QR1.

Again imho if you use one of those cheap China dual clamps it will fix your CSL DD and there is no need for QR2. I tell you mine is as tight as it could be no play whatsoever.

All that extra layout simply to change wheels quicker is nonsensical for your average simmer.

QR1 should be option @ 1/2 price ( no profit )

Or you can use those inexpensive great quality shops in China - where moza, fanatec, simcube, etc, and on and on - are all made. And just get the QR2 upgrades there.
