Update: Assetto Corsa EVO Will NOT Be The Official GTWC Game

With Assetto Corsa EVO on the horizon, the flood of news does not ease off. However, a report that it will be the official game of the GT World Challenge turned out to be false.

UPDATED DECEMBER 20, 07:40 UTC

The week that saw the "one month to go" hurdle for Assetto Corsa EVO's Early Access release cleared also saw a fresh bunch of news and details emerge. Our own live stream with Kunos Simulazioni's Marco Massarutto was jam-packed with new info based on community questions, but there appeared to be even more in a video talk by reputable German gaming outlet GameStar - which turned out to be false.

Gamestar Claims Refuted By Kunos

The platform, one of the biggest of its kind in Germany, published a video talk with their Editor Sören Diederich, who also had the chance to speak with Kunos, including Massarutto. Diederich claimed, among other things, to have been told that AC EVO will be the official game of the GT World Challenge.

This has proven to be incorrect, as Kunos told OverTake - Assetto Corsa EVO will, in fact, NOT be the offical GTWC game.

Apparently, this might have gotten lost in translation, as Massarutto did mention GTWC towards Diederich, but only as an example for themed DLC that matches real-life championships. Meanwhile, another element the GameStar Editor mentioned, namely co-op driving, is also not confirmed, according to the Italian studio.

"Pure" racing will have its place in Assetto Corsa EVO, however, with the open world set around the Nürburgring in the Eifel region inGermany that has taken center stage in recent news being completely optional, as Massarutto repeatedly mentioned in our Q&A live stream.

Racing cars that have been spotted in screenshots and trailers to date include the Ferrari 488 Challenge, Ferrari F40 Competizione, Hyundai Elantra N TCR, Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992), Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II and Mercedes-AMG GT2.

With the excitement leading up to the January 16 Early Access release ramping up, there are still plenty of questions within our community regarding AC EVO - and while we could not answer all of them during the Q&A with Massarutto, we will do our best to get your additional answers.

Are you excited for Assetto Corsa EVO's January 16 Early Access release already? Let us know in the comments below and join the discussion in our AC EVO forum!

I don't dislike gt3's. My problem is how biased this community is, for example almost everyone detest Rennsport because 'it's another gt3 title' however nobody said a word about this game only because kunos is the developing team.
Rennsport is bringing that kind of content you can find in other sims with... let's see... terrible optimization (last I checked a long time ago, but still seeing it in comments), no AI, unfriendly monetization and ownership system, a freaking battle pass. It's not about GT3 or the name of the dev team.

To be fair, when the huge amount of dlc packs arrive in Evo covering classic cars, old GT racecars, old Touring race cars etc., etc., we'll all have reasons to drive GT3 racing less. ACC has (from people who bothered to leave reviews) 24,000 positive statements from owners. What you describe isn't bias, it's personal opinion.

Ref Rennsport - I'm going to be bold. I think the biggest reason some/many dislike it is because what it offers doesn't push our sim-racing genre forwards and wow us with an awesome platform, gfx, performance and FFB. Facts taken from what I've read from people who've tried it. Not everyone hates Rennsport. Not everyone loves what Kunos have done.

Short dev cycle for AC. Limited single player. Limited qty of cars in different car class structures, etc., etc. Not enough classic content, all concerns from owners. The great thing is, we all have choice, and we all want and feel let down about the software we own for differing reasons. If people detest Rennsport, it's because they've done a very mediocre/meh job with the platform so far. My guess is, it will be so popular, it will fold. If it does fail, I don't think that's bias, but people mainly thinking it's crap.

Morning, folks! The article is back and has been updated to reflect the latest situation.

Unfortunately for everyone that was looking forward to a continuation of ACC in Assetto Corsa EVO, the GameStar claim that the game would be the official GTWC title turned out to be false. There appears to have been some sort of confusion or possibly some info being lost in translation about what's to come in EVO from their own interview, leading to even bigger confusion regarding the matter.

GameStar is one of the biggest and most trusted gaming outlets in Germany, so you can probably imagine our surprise when we were told that their claims were incorrect. Apologies for possibly getting your hopes up!

Of course, we remain dedicated to getting more info and answers to your questions in the lead-up to the Early Access release. Thank you to everyone who has sent us their questions, there were a lot of very good ones among them :)

The comment section has become a bit weird as a reaction to the news post, but we will let this pass ;)

This is a bit like the "ask me a question and edit it to make me look weird after I give the answer" posts on Reddit :roflmao:

I'd hope the "Update" in the title would explain that - not trying to frame you guys here :D

Why are you being so sh!tty, if it doesn't suit your demands go get something else, perhaps wait for Project Motor Racing, but as far as I see Kunos owe you nothing... (not sarcasm)
Uh, yes they do actually. They owe their success to all of the people that bought the first game as without them they would be nothing.
Also, why are you censoring the word shitty? What are you, twelve? If you feel like saying shitty, just say shitty, it's very infantile to say sh!tty.

Gamestar has become a joke meanwhile. I mean they bring articles of newest netflix series or they test freakin`fridges.... And in the main competence you have the feeling that the tests, at least of all triple A games, are ........ just bought.

Like any game (or thing) without buyers it wouldn't be a success for whoever produces it, or do you think other sim producers are living on air?

Because the site of four and a half million members has minors on it and I try to get my point across without the danger of getting auto censored, however it's likely only a twelve year old would write the potentially offending word three times in one sentance just to prove that they're a rebel.

If a studio makes a game or sim and folks buy that then the studio can be grateful, but nowhere is it sensible to assume that all future products should adhere to past customers requirements... they owe them nothing, the customer made a purchase perhaps up to ten years ago and likely had enjoyment from that purchase for many hundreds or thousands of hours, so unless they bought the company or they're on the BOD they are just potential sales.

Good that its not a GT3 game BUT it needs track only race cars. Until now only road and trackroadmix cars are announced.

Its a respect thing. Are you one of those people who belt out the most obnoxious words you can think of in normal conversation? Ive always seen that as vile. ( I ask this rhetorically, not accusatorially)

Dont get it wrong. I swear as bad as anyone, but there is a proper time for it and there is a proper time to self censor.

A resurrection at Christmas time. What a tale!
Referring to this entire section, i.e. article + thread was pure gone while I hours later returned to posting my answer to a user here last night.
GR8!
...now, where was I? :D

I've no idea where your lack of faith comes from? Zero part of any of the expanding news/features before early access are worrying/frustrating or hard to comprehend. There is no smoke or mirrors here. It's blatantly easy to see value if you've read and watched all the EVO interviews. Kunos has NEVER been bad value, it never will be.

That's just my logic on the whole thing. On 16th Jan many of us here will be running the game and confirming the same conclusions we feel right now. Based on everything we've seen, read, and understood. To us, there is no doubt it will be a "game-changer". It's seems simple enough to me, that EVO will be better than AC & ACC combined.
Was about to reply just as this section was removed in the meantime, hence my answer to you planted in another EVO thread as of yesterday night. So it's not because everything is dark thunderclouds here with heavy sleet in mind about Kunos. On the contrary.

I wish he would have asked at least one question about ACC. Can't help but be disappointed.
I hadn't thought along those lines as I don't do ACC (GT3 stuff an'all) but it is reasonable to wonder what exactly will happen, however it might just carry on as it is as the new title (ACE) seems not not to be the next GTWC after all.
