Update: Assetto Corsa EVO Will NOT Be The Official GTWC Game

With Assetto Corsa EVO on the horizon, the flood of news does not ease off. However, a report that it will be the official game of the GT World Challenge turned out to be false.

UPDATED DECEMBER 20, 07:40 UTC

The week that saw the "one month to go" hurdle for Assetto Corsa EVO's Early Access release cleared also saw a fresh bunch of news and details emerge. Our own live stream with Kunos Simulazioni's Marco Massarutto was jam-packed with new info based on community questions, but there appeared to be even more in a video talk by reputable German gaming outlet GameStar - which turned out to be false.

Gamestar Claims Refuted By Kunos

The platform, one of the biggest of its kind in Germany, published a video talk with their Editor Sören Diederich, who also had the chance to speak with Kunos, including Massarutto. Diederich claimed, among other things, to have been told that AC EVO will be the official game of the GT World Challenge.

This has proven to be incorrect, as Kunos told OverTake - Assetto Corsa EVO will, in fact, NOT be the offical GTWC game.

Apparently, this might have gotten lost in translation, as Massarutto did mention GTWC towards Diederich, but only as an example for themed DLC that matches real-life championships. Meanwhile, another element the GameStar Editor mentioned, namely co-op driving, is also not confirmed, according to the Italian studio.

"Pure" racing will have its place in Assetto Corsa EVO, however, with the open world set around the Nürburgring in the Eifel region inGermany that has taken center stage in recent news being completely optional, as Massarutto repeatedly mentioned in our Q&A live stream.

Racing cars that have been spotted in screenshots and trailers to date include the Ferrari 488 Challenge, Ferrari F40 Competizione, Hyundai Elantra N TCR, Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992), Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II and Mercedes-AMG GT2.

With the excitement leading up to the January 16 Early Access release ramping up, there are still plenty of questions within our community regarding AC EVO - and while we could not answer all of them during the Q&A with Massarutto, we will do our best to get your additional answers.

Are you excited for Assetto Corsa EVO's January 16 Early Access release already? Let us know in the comments below and join the discussion in our AC EVO forum!

This is where AC EVO is finally grabbing my attention. I mean, I will definitely check the open world part of the game, but in general I'm not a huge open world gamer. I'm mainly interested in the racing part in a racing sim. If it's yet another GT3 focused sim, so be it, but in this case I'm sure that there will be many more options in EVO. For me the good news is that it will have a clear focus on the competetive part as well.

But now how will mods work? 😭 I wish Kunos stayed with the open modding philosophy they started out with in the original 😢 I wish there was a thing like AC Car Tuner in the works for AC Evo as well...

Glad to read this, in combination with a proper anti-cheat system we should have to worry less about people abusing the non-existance of it in ACC.

Mods are supposed to come normally after full release, with a complete manual on how to do so, like for AC1. I guess there will be a regular kn5 checker on the servers, so that the SRO races are not to be tempered with.

Great news, there are many of us who want racing cars, race tracks and many categories to compete with. And I don't want to deliver a pizza driving a Porsche 911.
So ACC will be left in oblivion?

It's hard to appreciate the value in this when you haven't yet had your nose under the hood, fingers on the lightly run tires, hands on the wheel and feet on the pedals to test the limits.

Nice enough with articles about likely upcoming content, but it's hard to guess whether official GTWC license is good or bad, when you don't even know if the EVO engine leans towards AC, ACC, ISI or something else, well then it's hard to come up with a factual input.

I'm sure when the modding community gets going (It will at some point, sooner or later) you'll be able to transport your family pizza in your favourite vintage Piaggio Ape Tuk-Tuk van.

And if you dislike GT3 with a passion, you can simply ignore it and it won't ever be an issue right? (not sarcasm)
I don't dislike gt3's. My problem is how biased this community is, for example almost everyone detest Rennsport because 'it's another gt3 title' however nobody said a word about this game only because kunos is the developing team.

Looking at how massively successful Amer/Euro T Simulators are and the massive amount of DLC and purchasable content, it's remarkable the amount of those players eager and willing gleefully, like spotify subscribers, to get that new shiny truck paint job or accessory pack which in turn allows them to have maps from the Baltic and black sea to the Mediterranean and up to Scandinavian locales and then all the states across the USA. It is bemusing how many hate the subscription model and don't understand it as a great benefit for all when used properly, when they should see it as the way to ensure they get the quality and incredible features they want for a steal with incredible options.

There are terrible subscriptions and those are best tarred and feathered, then there are great subscriptions which are immensely valuable and give far more than the sum of the parts.

If Gran Turismo 7 offered a free roam mode partnering with the trucky sims for all the massive landscapes covering most of the planet for the ultimate smokey and the bandit Texarkana Coors run and Also an optional Pro Mode sub for a couple bucks a month with every single occurrence/event tracked in the ultimate FullMontyLogBook and proper accountable and penalties, bannable racing (AKA *requires* accountability),

It woudl be the dream of all dreams. even though some might not know it yet. Still can go roundy roundy fussing over grommet torques and which tread pattern matches their unkempt eye brows, but with far more options, Massive player base, reason to get on and play online with friendly driving, as well as convoys of hoonigans in the tokyo xtreme drift scene trying to nab the cargo from the armored truck modes. Gonna need some great deformable simulations to go along with all that. Only thing missing is tieing it in with some military BF2042/DeltaForce, oh then you basically have a high fidelity simphysics focused jeeteeaye...

hmmmm and their GTA+ subscription is making them how many bajillions because the players LOOOVE it and it's fun... at $0.000183 per minute/ about a penny per hour. it's silly to ignore that "subscription" make me mad, all subscriptions are evil is delusional and detached. As optional and as often incredibly inexpensive, they offer a lot. Far far more than iracing, and that one is still reasonable, but it is mandatory, so that's where it will likely have to adjust a lot when competion finally shows up in their monopoly.

There is no reason Kunos can't do this, but it's a matter of vision and knowing what is best to move things forward versus coddling myopic niches into their evaporation. sim racing doesn't need to be forced into assisted living for it's twilight.

I've no idea where your lack of faith comes from? Zero part of any of the expanding news/features before early access are worrying/frustrating or hard to comprehend. There is no smoke or mirrors here. It's blatantly easy to see value if you've read and watched all the EVO interviews. Kunos has NEVER been bad value, it never will be.

That's just my logic on the whole thing. On 16th Jan many of us here will be running the game and confirming the same conclusions we feel right now. Based on everything we've seen, read, and understood. To us, there is no doubt it will be a "game-changer". It's seems simple enough to me, that EVO will be better than AC & ACC combined.

A lot of hot reactions here and free criticism.

With this announcement I understand that Assetto Corsa Evo will take the place of AC1 and ACC without copying them as it was announced. And it makes sense, let's see this:

Ac1: no point in making a 2 given that the technical base is now 10 years old and that it has almost fallen into the public domain thanks to massive modding. On the other hand, the studio will be inspired by the concept (passionate about road sports cars), modding and their experience.

ACC: for those who were part of the early access, everyone remembers the hell that was the unreal engine for Kunos. Not planned for car simulation, nor for the triple screen, catastrophic performances ... .
Then the physics, the latter had many flaws and the studio worked hard to try (I mean try) to correct them. Even last year the suspension was "corrected". Some parts of the code have been completely rewritten. The good idea here is the GTWC license and the competitive aspect.

Except that maintaining 2 software is expensive and takes time, the good idea is to bring them together.

Where I am afraid is concerning physics, will we stay on demanding simulation as AC1 wanted or something more accessible like ACC. It will be somewhere between the 2 I think.

If this decision ensures the sustainability of Evo and that of the studio, I say yes.

As for money, Kunos has always been fair in prices, even cheap. Some who are stingy will spend much more on nonsense or cigarettes or whatever. Always a question of point of view.

Nah, subs ain't for me, I don't do them and I won't do them, and if Kunos somehow introduces it, then I'll not bother with this game/sim
There are some folks that love a beer and the social interaction in the pub, there are others that are not only tea-total but wouldn't even walk by a pub.
Sub or No Sub, for me it's a no sale, I don't mind you thinking that I'm "delusional and detached" because I don't think the same way as you, it's the way life is sometimes, for others... let em do what they want, it's their money.

BTW, that video clip is really annoying, it makes reading you post difficult!
