Everything New In The Christmas Day Assetto Corsa EVO Content Reveal

The sim racing news does not let up, not even at the peak of the holiday season. Kunos decided to give us all a festive surprise in the form of new info for Assetto Corsa EVO.

16 January is the eagerly awaited release date for early access to Assetto Corsa EVO, which is set to be fully released in the Fall period of next year.

Kunos decided to give us sim racers a present on the most festive day of the year, which is another glimpse into what we can expect from AC EVO. We saw some new cars, and we now know which tracks will be available in the Early Access build.

The Ford RS Cosworth.

The five tracks that have been confirmed for the early access build are as follows: Suzuka, Mount Panorama, Imola, Brands Hatch and Laguna Seca. Interestingly, no Nürburgring or the Nordschleife, which might disappoint some, and neither will the eagerly anticipated free roam map of the Eifel region surrounding the circuit will be available either.

Marco Massarutto - Kunos co-founder and executive manager - stated in the preview video that between the early access and full release, they will intermittently add sections of the open world map. As for what type of driving will be available from the release of the early access build, there are practice and quick race modes, as well as the driving academy that is designed to help players learn tracks.

Driving Academy is an all-new game mode for AC EVO

As for cars, there have been a few we spotted that have not been in the previous previews. Just listing off the ones that are new within the gameplay segments, we saw the Alfa Romeo 75 Turbo Evoluzione, Ford Escort RS Cosworth, BMW M2 CS Racing and Mercedes AMG GT 63. There was also a Honda NSX featured prominently in the Kunos office on a sim rig monitor.

We do know from an image of an overview featuring all the brands that will have cars in the game that Honda is one of three marques that we did not have any previous confirmation of. Cadillac and Maserati are the other two, although interestingly, despite the 765 LT featuring prominently in a previous preview, McLaren is not listed. Whether we can read deeper into that or not, we cannot say.

All of the brands are set to be in AC EVO from launch, so maybe McLaren will arrive in a later update?

My mistake. Trying to get everything written up whilst visiting my grandmother and meet with my brother's family meant some parts were missed by me.

No worries at all, awesome article all the same!!!! The EVO coverage has been mega.
:)

I happen to love the track section time attacks from GT, I'm so chuffed it made it to EVO too.

I want to like this, I really do, as I love AC, but I am still on the fence about it. I like racing cars on a racing circuit. I love racing cars from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and even modern racing cars. I could care less about street cars, and a lot of the gaming stuff that Gran Turismo, and Forza have in them. I don't want to have to buy cars or unlock them by winning races in street cars. If this has good physics, and ffb, which I am assuming it will since AC does, then I would love to see whole racing series with the tracks they raced on. I'm not seeing this so far. If the sim is as easy to mod as AC then I am sure that modders will take care of that, but it will probably take a while. I guess I will wait and see, but I doubt I will buy it on release unless I see a lot more of what I want from a racing sim.
I respect that even though I really love the road car selection in AC. This is the sequel to AC and I anticipate a very similar philosophy to car selection in Evo which would mean a great selection of race cars will appear again .

However, I think AC was successful because it had such a great selection of all cars, importantly including many road cars. If you think about it, AC is the only pc sim to have an extensive road car selection and I think that drove a lot of purchases. GT and Forza outsell every pc sim by far and I don't think it's a coincidence they also have a much wider selection of car content than the traditional pc sim. AC did a lot of things right to sell well but they tapped into this broader car content market and I think it paid off big time for Kunos. In the real world I believe there are probably more car enthusiasts than true racing enthusiasts (with a lot of overlap too) so it is a smart play to appeal to both markets by Kunos and by extension, I think all the other pc sims except for the flawed Project Cars have hurt their sales by focusing almost exclusively on race cars.

Appreciate it. I was fully prepared for ostracism for the smallest things, not from you but just in general

I hope there is some nice progression to the game.

So quick races and singleplayer all should be unlocked.

However multiplayer in terms of roaming and "owning" your car I hope you start with a shitter and you need to drive more and more to afford luxury cars. Otherwise no one wants to run the shitters and everyone will pick hypercars for roads.

The thing that worries me is the Driving Academy. Having to get licenses first before you can drive some of the cars in the game?
I'd assume quick races everything is unlocked but maybe for a career championship mode you have to get a licence and climb the ladder first? Like gran turismo?

EXCITING!

Looks indeed to be a GT inspired title (and more) coming to the PC.
Seems to be appealing to a wider audience than fully targetting "hardcore sim enthuasiasts" and that makes commerical sense.

We can hope, that straight off the grid, in Jan, it delivers proper utilisation of DD and improved FFB. Which, a title like GT7 appears to be hampered. So now with PC also offering the usual additional benefits over consoles, in supporting multiple display options in resolutions and screen or visual formats. I am interested to see graphically how this compares.

Sound?
Not much has been mentioned yet about the audio, or how this perhaps improves over ACC.
Does it apply Dolby Atmos or make use of height channels for increased immersion? So be good to learn more if it is technically any better than what we got from ACC or just applies some new tweaked sounds?

Personally, still think GT7 delivers something as a package that makes it what it is.
With free car/track updates and a community producing awesome downloadable skins/paints.
You can enjoy it casually, admire the visuals, the car modelling, artistry and even the audio. Or get really into competive online racing. Its popularity speaks for itself.

Still today (in general) and with the release of the PS5 Pro, it sets a high level in graphics and audio for a fun and very popular racing title. Yes, and not without its own drawbacks or issues, however on these forums it gets totally snubbed or looked down on.

I am optomistic for EVO and look forward to more reveals and initial release.
Hoping it will be a fun and title worthy of influencing new hardware sales. Helping to also grow the popularity of semi-serious racing game fans. Many that are not shy with spending the money, to experience games at their best.

Unfortunately we seem to be in a period of time, where most new releases do not live upto their hype or actually release in a state that makes them instantly enjoyable.

I think you can also argue EVO exactly targets sim enthusiasts. It's more of a sim than AC, weather, night etc., etc., and you can put the coming race cars (and expanded class of Motorsport) on tracks and use it exactly like AC for purists. Nothing is lost. Certainly a broader appeal for sure as you say.

It would be great if the driving academy were highly limiting for a full sim mode. Racing means those without stay amongst those into that sort of thing. Ensuring proper sportswomanship in sim racing is long long overdue.. Using licensing as a requirement for online races would be great. no license, no problem , enjoy it with others with no license.

Also the misinformation about GT7 in this thread is hilarious AF, clearly folks who have zero experience actually sim racing with it.
