History
Autodelta's Tipo 33 sports car program kicked off in 1967,perhaps a little prematurely, resulting in a rather uninspiring debut for Alfa Romeo's 2L response to the German Porsche 906's and 910's. For 1968, Carlo Chiti redesigned the T33 in hopes of rectifying the nasty handling issues while retaining the unique "H-pattern" lightweight chassis. Alongside a slight tune-up of the 1,998cc V8, now pushing out 270hp, the T33/2 would hit the circuit in February 1968 for the Daytona 24 Hours.
Here, the T33/2 managed to snap up 5th, 6th and 7th place overall, winning the 2L prototype class outright - earning this short tail the nickname 'Daytona'. More success soon followed at Imola, Zandvoort and the Targa Florio. At the 1968 Le Mans 24 Hours, an Autodelta factory entered longtail T33/2 took the 2L class win from long time winners Porsche. Following on from the impressive 1968 WSC season, many T33/2's saw further action in the hands of privateers, with Belgian racing team VDS taking multiple wins while waiting for a 3L T33/3 (which never came). With around 28 examples built, most still surviving, it became a frequent sight on the many European and American racing circuits through the late 60's to the early 70's.
Mod information
This mod has been the result of about 6 months of work, lots of teamwork, research and a few thousand km's of testing. Firstly, the 3D model has been made from scratch by the incredible Nugget. The car was then imported to AC by SergioC, after which the Italian detailing maestro Gadu spent countless hours detailing the car, making new textures, materials, refractive lights and more. Finally, AC Legends master Bazza has worked on delivering historically accurate physics, focusing not only on accuracy but also on the joy of driving such an awesome 60's sports car. To complete the car, 33 historically accurate liveries have been made by yours truly. Some skins have the roof removed when applicable (see photo below).
